Guys,
I injured myself in mid sept playing up in Yorkshire and although it's got better and I can run etc, my knee still isn't right. Now, I'm not looking to make a decision until april anyway but thought I'd ask you guys for your thoughts...
My options are:
a) Play for the firsts and accept I may have to 'hide' in the field, but as an opener if could impact running between the wickets as the guys I bat with are all pretty quick..
b) Just tell them I've had a injury and don't feel upto PHYICALLY playing firsts and just open in the seconds where it starts to not matter..
The up sides - I wouldn't feel I was costing the team 5-10 singles a innings
The downsides - I'm probably the 2nd best batsmen in the side and avg'd 36 last time in this division and I'm better now than I was then so as far as the actual cricket goes... I'm more than good enough. so I'd be playing well below my 'level' tbh, so it might get boring or even be unfair on oppos to basically be facing a first teamer.
Obviously as I say, the decision won't be made until April anyway so still 3 months for it to improve but I'm starting to think it might be fine to play etc but just have to accept I can't dive about etc like I used to (which, tbh makes a good fielder into a top fielder). Meaning to me, you shouldn't play in the firsts unless you are fully fit.
