I thought someone must have actually looked into this, and they have, in great depth!
The conclusion that it doesn't explicitly say, but that I got from reading it, is one I'd wanted to believe for a while: that the change in bat shape and size since the 80s doesn't make THAT much of a difference and what ABdV and Gayle do is actually amazing, not just the product of better bats.
Really, the sweet spots are much bigger but by all their other measures... not really.
