Crown TLC
« on: May 20, 2015, 02:33:31 PM »

Just wanted to post quickly about the excellent service I have just received from B3. My crown needed to go in for a bit of a clean up plus I fancied some of the new embossed stickers. I have just received the bat back and it looks transformed. I am very pleased with the outcome. I don't think any of the pictures I have taken really do the new stickers justice.

I'm sure it's a cracker of a bat and nice refurb but that's the top 1% willow?

I know crown clefts are low density but for the price you'd expect them to be stunners as well, if you get one that isn't then its like having a Ferarri but it looking like a  Lada on the outside  :(

All points taken however I'm confident his looks better in person and is genuine grade 1 wood and the density is very low. (I have picked up this bat and know it well and know it's a belter). I know what the customer paid as well and think he got a deal too but this bat is no "lada" as you put it. Please do remember marks do appear after use.

But each to there own I use a crown which was around 340 density has 8 grains 1271 and is my best bat I ever bought.

It a grade one and low low natural desity not over dried, Natural.

I will try to get a picture of all the crowns for you all to see.

I understand bats around this price are not everybody cup of tea and understand why but they are special bats.

Personally I wouldn't pay top dollar for a cricket bat and I don't think that bat is a 'Lada', I was just trying to say if I was paying that much I'd want it to look amazing as well as ping.

I had a 8 grain grade 1. It was the best bat i have ever used. Honestly, this grain obsession is overrated, but ill leave it to you to do your own research.  They look straight and even and about 10-12. That bat and refurb looks bloody good to me. Anything with 8-12 is going to perform most of the time,

I don't normally like to comment on the "that doesn't look like x grade" posts as it is all subjective and will continue to be until there is an industry standard to regulate it, but as it is my bat I probably should address a few things.

I picked this bat purely on the pick up, design and ping. Looks were never a consideration to me (not that I think it is ugly). It is without question my favourite bat to date, I have even had a copy made for net and wet use.

If the person who buys the bat is happy with it then that's all that matters right? Everyone one has their own tastes, preferences, requirements and ideas of what the perfect bat it for them and is no different in this case.

Other than a little bit of heart wood, I don't see any knots, blemishes and/or marks on the face. Crown was supposed to be lightest willow (don't know if was supposed to be best playing as well) so I think this bat looks fine. Doesn't have a lot of grains but is not lacking in them either additionally they are all straight. Looks good, hope it plays well too.

I aged with Garret 8-10 grains is my proffered cleft, evenly spaced and straight through the toe and mirrors on the back, blemish free is G1 certainly. Sometime you get lucky down the grading spectrum I just got a SS bat that's classes as G3 with 15 grains no blemish, no concaving and 2.9 with grip, scuff etc and has 40mm edges cost £65 so personally iv moved away from £400+ bats but no doubt I'll return lol.
