The handle split on my bat, a H4L I got for a ridiculous price and I won't be able to afford anything similar any time soon. The splice is 100% intact, the actual handle has split horizontally across about 2 inches above the shoulders.

If I send it off and get a new handle put in, will it be the same as before? Will it be as responsive?

Does anyone know of anywhere decent to get it repaired in the West Midlands?

Cicada sports do bat repairs but I've heard nothing about them at all so I'm slightly dubious.

Would Matt at H4L be a good starting point?

That kind of damage is probably the easiest to repair as it usually means the shoulders and splice area are absolutely fine still. Sticking a new handle in can have an impact on the bat, but it would be barely noticeable, especially if a good job is done by someone reputable.

My first recommendation would be to go to Matt at H4L, i don't know his pricing but he will do a great job and the bat will come back looking as near to new as possible.

We offer rehandles for £35 plus postage, and in most situations I am able to save the look of the stickers by cutting them out around the splice and reapplying them after the handle goes in.

I had my old GM Flare handle replaced at M&H after it cracked and it was never the same bat - pickup felt a lot heavier.

It made no difference to the performance, just the balance.

Your best bet in the west midlands is Hawk cricket just outside Stourbridge as well as manufacture and repairs they make there own handles  to fit on site in there workshop.visitors are always welcome  Cidcada is a Sports shop. The bat should be okay as it can be rebalanced if it needs it. If you decide on Hawk cricket you are welcome to contact me as hawk can be difficult to locate.

We can put a handle in at B3 we also will weight the handle and make sure the same weighted handle goes in if thats what you require. We are east Midlands so might be out of your way.

Senior do you work for Hawk by any chance nice set up at Bellbroughton and i really like there bats.

In the first instance i say get it sent to Matt i prefer the same handle going in what was in if you enjoyed the playability of the bat as handles take time to play in as well.

Hi Dave
No i don't work there and have never done so i have known the owners since they started up in 1996  through playing against them and buying  bats and having bat repairs done for me there. Also with me residing in Stourbridge they and Stac bats (based at Stourbridge cricket Club ) are  our only local batmakers.

The club I'm at seem to have a Hawk fettish. Trouble is, out of the 10 Hawk bats I've seen only 2 have been decent, the rest have been very ordinary and 2 absolute planks. Also, 3 of the last batch the owners really didn't like as it wasn't quite what they wanted. It's what's set me against them as a brand tbh, just not seen many good ones and for the price, that's ridiculous. Not saying they are all bad, I'm sure they make a mean pro bat but at the end of the day, we should judge companies on their normal ranges, not their top ones.

Just an opinion of course, I'm sure others love them as dave does.

One thing though  Hawk  work on a personal basis which means costomers have the oppotunity  go there And examine /test there bat that's been made for them before they take it.

listening to all the guys who have them, they pick from about 4-5 clefts in different grades, pick a shape then get told that in a week/2 go back and it'll be ready. Compare that to being there while they make it etc it's not so personal.

Anyway, it's not to dig at them tbh, more just a different view so people have all views and not just one.

Yes it's  is about different views that said Hawk asked me stay while they made my bat  as this ensured it was made exactly how I wanted it I then returned 2 later after the bat had been sanded buffed etc to collect and pay.

I used to have a couple of them and went to visit in person. I had free choice of any pre handled cleft in the rack in the profile I was after as they were rough shaped (toe and shoulders had been part shaped) and they were all marked up on the handle for each grade. There was no pressure and I could take as much time as I liked and spent a lot of the time talking to Mike while he worked and I went through the rack. Discussed weight, handle, grips, etc and the bats arrived 10 days or so later.
