« on: February 28, 2015, 05:54:08 AM »

A mate just bought a new bat and has spent 20 mins knocking it in and this has happened. Fatal?

No.. just looks too dry.
stop using it. Oil it thoroughly and put a scuff sheet before knocking or using it in nets.

Take it back, get your money back and get a bat from an artisan maker.

All bats should over time  crack like that it looks like an excellent cleft with 14 or more straight grains  my guess is it's been softly pressed while lacking in moisture.

Providing you've oiled it.  That's a return I reckon!

You can always give back and tell him he purchased a cheese grater. Kashmir does that when hit too hard, obviously this isnt Kashmir or EWNI. Assuming its been oiled properly, this is not pressed enough. Send it back.
