How to oil market pen branding?
« on: March 06, 2015, 06:16:34 PM »

Evening all

As you may have seen I've got a new toy from OLS!

Question, how to oils "marker pen branding" - specifically TON stamps.

This time I've oiled the surrounding area, then oiled the wood with a cotton bud so I don't touch the "pen" itself. Once all the wood had oil on I dabbed my rag down the whole edge so the oil is evenly applied. Will this make the "pen" run? (But late now anyway)

Has anyone found a way of successfully piling round marker pen branding?
If so please share and I'm sure I'm not the only one who's made a mess doing it in the past  :-[

They're branded less than 1mm into the wood then coloured in with a sharpie

They produce some nice looking blades, but I always thought that the TON logo looked a bit cheap. Now I know why.
It lets the brand down.
I know some don't care about that stuff much, but then again many do. And will move on to another manufacturer.
Why don't they varnish it? Or just use a decent sticker?
I mean, felt pen? Sheeesh.

Is this the same for all models or are the higher end ones burnt in?

The one I've pictured has the stamps branded into the wood (presumably burnt) a small way. The branded stamp has then been coloured in with sharpie. This has been the same on all SS bats I've seen

Maybe try some clear nail polish over the TON logo.

For what it is worth, I would put some oil on some kitchen towel and dab it on the area carefully.
