Snell and Atherton #7
« on: January 01, 2012, 04:36:33 PM »

Happy New Year to All!

After a few drinks last night, I somehow managed to purchase what I think is a really good deal and I thought I would post some pictures. I brought a number 7 snell and atherton spokeshave for concaving on bats. It total, it cost me £29 including postage from the USA which I thought was a good deal.

I do have one question, aimed at the batmakers, how much concaving will this tool give?

Looks like a nice tool, plenty of curvature to the blade so should be good for concaving, maybe even scooping out.....

7 is perhaps too extreme, James at Fusion used to use his for removing stickers from bats. Think 5 is ideal.

I think you will need less strokes for concaving with this as I have either 4 or 5, depending upon how close of spine you do it will change the profile of bat.

IT will do the job , but a NO 4 or No 5 is easier to use ,a good deal for £29

I happened to look on eBay and I found this with 4 hours to go. Thankyou for all the advise given above. Queue the music and the next cleft and I will see how we get on with it.
