Just wondered how much the following would save in weight compared to a regular SH? Assuming it's a blank bat with just a chevron grip.

- Academy length bat
- Harrow length bat
- Having a SSH instead of a SH
- Flatter toe
- Putting a slight slope on the shoulders ie. Newbery TT/Purist
- Salix CTS/CTE Edges
- Drilling a hole through the splice into the bat - ie. Hunts - I think Jake has mentioned it saves 2oz
- Scooping wood out of the toe and shoulders (leaving the middle intact)

I suspect in most cases it's minimal compared to your average 2'10 bat.

A few suggestions - not sure these will all work but I've seen them all mentioned before.

Rounded toe instead of square.
SSH (cut off the knobbly bit).
Replace the binding with fibreglass tape.
Sand the bat all over (GM say you can do a 2oz weight reduction by just sanding).
Cut down and stretch your grip.

Would having an F7 face as opposed to F4.5 or F2 make a difference or is that down to pressing rather than wood being taken out?

reduce the 3lb bat to 2.10 just by sanding all over....but feel is still the same ...dont know why??

That's a good effort with just sanding!

My theory: It probably feels the same for two reasons. One is psychological, it was too heavy, you sand it and it looks almost exactly the same, your mind says it's still too heavy. Two is because you sanded it evenly, the balance will be the same, just the deadweight is less when you put the bat on your scales.

Pressing, not sure if a flatter face would be more or less wood. I think it just distributes it differently.

You could sand and remove from the whole profile,,,but it's not going to be the same bat in any aspect
I've removed three ounce by sanding on my old laver, (from the huge spine and edges), and that was still a good bat.
But I wouldn't entertain removing more than that for fear of ruining the bat

Stickers ,grips ,toe guard would take a bit more off

To get an academy size  bat I reduced  a 2lb 10 ounce flat face S/H magnum that was given to me and made the blade Academy length with a rounded toe Doing this removed  2 ounces reducing the handle length by 1 inch and weighing the nobble bit cut off the top removed 1/2 ounce  flattening the toe to 1 inch thick to assist pickup thick removed I ounce sloping the shoulders to 1 inch thick at the top of the shoulders to reduce the bats overall weight reduce a further 1 ounce. Left the middle alone Doing this reduced the bat to 2lb 5 1/2 ounces the ball still flies of the face the same as it did when the bat weighed 2lb 10 ounces.
