Sunil Narine
« on: July 30, 2014, 09:53:46 AM »

Just seen Sunil Narine bowled a wicket maiden in a super over in the CPL recently! To get a maiden in a t20 game anyway is an amazing achievement, let alone in a super over. He seems to be one heck of a limited overs bowler. Can anyone even work out how he spins it so much yet so discretely from what seems to be so little effort from his fingers in the replays?

There's an image in this story that might help explain?

You're not suggesting he might not bowl with a straight arm per chance....? Heaven forbid...!

I actually don't think he bowled a single legitimate delivery in that entire over from the slow motion footage.

Not at all, that would be slanderous! I am merely suggesting that perhaps a long sleeve shirt promotes extra spin on release as spin bowlers of recent times have used this garment to great effect.......

Even if he does chuck, his doesn't seem to be the kind of bowling that would get much/any benefit from it in my opinion as he seems to do it all with his fingers from behind the ball rather than the sides. Anyway, back to the bowling/bowler rather than the near pointless accusations of chucking that seem to come up any time a spin bowler does any good  ;)?

by bending/throwing your are you get more power behind the wrist which gets more revs on the ball.

of you aren't sure, try it in the nets!

But anyyywayyyy. How does he actually turn it? From the footage I've seen he seems to bowl a slight variation of the carrom ball either way?

Appears he's been banned from throwing bowling the off spinner, odd one that.

Hasn't he only ever been banned from bowling by the BCCI and not the ICC?

An offspinner who can't bowl offspin? Cricket does throw up some gems sometimes.

Interesting verdict, watching him bowl before I always thought his offie was more or less ok and he chucked the one that went the other way. Amused myself during a world t20 when he was making Luke Wright look like a mug by trying to call which way the ball would spin at the point of delivery, got a solid two overs right.

It's funny since Sunil Narine embarrassed CSK in the debut CLT20 for T&T a few years ago, every time he plays against them after that match he gets called of throwing...

I suspect there may well be such a "conspiracy" but...there's no smoke without fire and in this instance there is no turn without a bent arm...
