B&S Impi weights and pickups
« on: May 05, 2015, 10:03:55 AM »

I'm in the market for a new bat and love the look of the B&S Impi - both the profile and the stickers, but i'm spoilt for choice on this forum!  Looking at your website there didn't seem to be any weights - just light, medium and heavy pickup.  Do you have any nice ones in (i'm sure they're all nice) with a light pick up?  I'll not be able to get down to the shop - live a bit far away i'm afraid.

@pidge

We don't sell bats on weight on the website, there is very little point as i could line 10 bats up in front of you, all of which weigh 2'10, yet they would all feel different. If someone calls or emails with a specific dead weight request we of course oblige.

The Impi by nature is a relatively heavy bat on the scale, but given the profile it lends itself to a lighter pickup. About as light as they come is 2'10, I've had a couple previously a little lighter than this but these bats are not something i can simply order more of. They arrive as and when, if they ever arrive at all, and of course always sell instantly.

I have this one at 2'10 including a scuff sheet, it feels quite well balanced and picks up well, i won't say it is some miracle bat with a feather light pickup but i wouldn't describe it as heavy:

There are a couple of Impis at 2'9 in stock with a reduced profile size to attempt to meet the demand from people wanting them in a lighter dead weight:

If you want a light B&S i would suggest this GP 274 at a touch under 2'8 including a scuff sheet:

Jeez - top marks for service, it's like being in the shop! Many thanks for the reply.  I think you've made the decision even harder! What prices are we looking at for the various bats? Impis £210 and the GP £274? On a side note, do you have any of the GP gloves in stock?

Sorry - another question, which one would have the best 'ping' - heard top reviews about your service and choice so would like your opinion.

I've brought 3 b&s from vitas and ping is without doubt the thing that every bat had in abundance
Stunning value

You're correct there on the prices. A portion of the GP 274 money goes to Pollock to help pay for his care etc. The bat is made by Tim Keeley and also comes with a padded leather bat cover and a DVD of GP's 274 for SA (when the rights holders release the footage which is happening imminently)

We have GP pads and gloves in stock yes.

As fromthehip says, they are all nice! I had my first B&S bat probably nearly 10 years ago now, and have had plenty more over the years. I honestly can't say i've seen or used a bad one in terms of performance. I tapped a few balls up with them just now. The GP makes the best noise and the 2'10 Impi probably has the best rebound. Thats not to say the 2'9 Impis are poor by any means. They all feel great, the differences between them are tiny. Tapping up and hitting with a mallet will only tell you so much though, bats of this nature will get better the more they are used, any of them would be a great purchase.

@Vitas Cricket

Sorry, been hectic at work, didn't even get a game of cricket in yesterday - maybe for the best judging how cold it looked out of the window!

The 2'10 sounds like the one then. How do I go about ordering it? Thanks for the replies - service has been outstanding so far.
