Thumb protection
« on: June 08, 2015, 04:58:22 AM »

I got a very painful blow on the thumb while batting yesterday. This is something that's happened to me a few times down the years and seems to highlight a weakness in glove design, at least for most of those I've seen. If you're playing straight to a lifting ball, the only bit of the thumb that is likely to be hit is the very tip (play an imaginary forward defensive in the mirror and you'll see :)) which on my gloves just has the usual rubber bit inside the glove and a little bit of soft foam in the end. I haven't seen a glove whose padding on the back of the thumb (which is almost redundant) wraps right round the tip; are there any and, if so, can anbody vouch for its effectiveness?
Cheers

Doesn't Root use gloves like that? Check out GM gloves I'm sure there was a thread on here a month or two ago about this very thing

Thanks for the hint - i'd missed the old thread on this subject. Pity that the 909 doesn't even seem to be one of GM's top end gloves, apart from the extra thumb protection I'm not so keen on them. Looks like nobody else has adopted this feature yet.
