Gloves withering?
« on: November 22, 2015, 08:54:43 AM »

So to cut a long story short, I have a protos batting gloves that I really like and use only in matches. Till now I have used these gloves for maximum ten matches. Yesterday while inspecting them, I found the there are some sections on the gloves where the top layer has started to wither off. I have always kept them well protected from sharp edges such as that of spikes, helmet etc. The same happened with my another glove two years back. Is it normal? Can I prevent it?

May be something to do with the type of grip you use. Some people say that octopus grips shred gloves. Never experienced it myself though.

Same with my protos. However the protection is excellent for my level of cricket but the gloves top layer has started to wither within a few matches. I plan to upgrade them to BAS players edition for the coming season. Won't go back to protos gloves again. In India it's around 23 pounds. Do you mind sharing the price you paid for them?

If its what I think it is I know some grips are harsher than others, I know after using chevron grips it hurts my gloves more than others.

Nope, it is not on the palm side but on the outer covering...

It's probably the grips you are using stopped using Octopus grips for this reason as the pimples used to stick to the glove and pull off and rub off the leather.

Nope, it is not on the palm side but on the outer covering...

If the outer covering is coming off, then its just a case of bad quality control at the manufacturing side. I had a SM Sultan Gloves whose outer cover peeled off on the thumb and middle finger. However this didn't affect the usability of the glove. It lasted for about 6 months before the palm side became too sweaty and slippery.
