Best or Favourite Test Pitch and why
« on: November 26, 2015, 12:01:16 PM »

With all the debate currently going on about pitches, I thought it might be interesting to see where we thought the best test pitches were....

For me it's Old Trafford, offers something for the new ball gives pace and bounce and becomes better for batting then turns later in game

The WACA - for a pitch unlike anywhere else - and a challenge unlike anything else

Eden Gardens - for the same reasons re: pitch, and the atmosphere - for those that haven't been there, to me it really is like a coliseum - and it is the city where my parents are from and therefore has a magical nostalgia for me - my dad taught me to play cricket after all.

In this country, a pre-turn Old Trafford (its been average at best since)

Elsewhere, the WACA, Sydney, any of the South African decks.

For a deck old Trafford must be up there, seems to offer everything and in the wettest part of the country....must be on the roids!
For watching you can't be the Adelaide oval, walking throught the turnstiles to see a white picket fence and the pitch directly in front of you takes some beating especially with the old members stand as the backdrop.
Hopefully it hasn't changed with the new stands.

Plenty of scenic gorunds in NZ and cape town of course. Not sure you can beat this for scenery:-

I think dharamshala has just become a test match venue?

Talking wickets, I think Old Trafford (pre turn) and Brisbane were the 2 most balanced decks in world cricket. WACA is great fun when quick and I loved the (orange clay?) turner in Mumbai, a decent balance between bat and ball. The old Rec ground in Antigua was up there for atmosphere when the Windies were in their pomp.

They're still keeping the WACA as the home of Western Australia, they also said during the commentary of the latest test match against NZ that test matches will still be played at the WACA but only for the lower ranked nations such as West Indies, Sri Lanka etc and the new stadia will be used for the likes of England, South Africa and India.
