Gray Nics India.
« on: December 03, 2015, 09:39:09 AM »

GN seems to have a different naming convention for India. The usual names likes LE, Test, Players, 5 star, 4 star etc are nowhere to be found. Naming convention in GN India website is GN10, 9, 8, 7 etc. Couple of my friends are reviewing the following bats at a local shop in India.

1. Legend GN10   => 625 USD http://www.gray-nicolls.co.in/index.php/english-willow-bats/22-legend
2. e41 GN 9         => 384 USD http://www.gray-nicolls.co.in/index.php/english-willow-bats/26-oblivion-e41
3. Maverick GN 8  => 310 USD http://www.gray-nicolls.co.in/index.php/english-willow-bats/25-maverick-f1

Has anyone purchased GN bats in India ? If so can you comment on the ping, performance, handle etc on the GN9 and GN8 models ?

If you are in India mate hoard on the SG/SS/BAS offerings there.
I have always found GN/GM proper selections in the states and UK ....you have to know they really do not care about those brands being sold in India.

Plus the fact the pricing is almost the same so why do that, better deals to be had on the local brands.

Agree with @coolcucumber_1

Go for BAS or any big indian brand if you are buying directly from India.

I've knocled in SS, TON, BAS, SF, SG,SM,JM, bdm and the indian made GN, Kookaburra, Spartan and New Balance.

SS, TON, BAS and GN are all better (firmer) than the others. GN and BAS were the best.

Others are softer so if you're looking for something to spend two weeks on with a regular mallet buy them. Recommend Cricmart.in if you buy direct. They hand pick SS and Ton. Had three bats from them, never a dud. Message Gagan of Facebook.

90% to 95% GN bats are made in India, 5% bats thats made is UK is only for few bat models. Most of the bats this day and age is made in India and Pakistan. I read an article it said in 92 WC 95% bats that was used were made purely in UK but in 2015 WC 95% bats used were from India and Pakistan. I would suggest to go for BDM or BAS bats if you are looking for Indian made bats. They dont advertise so much and they dont care coz they know their bats are good.

Gray-Nicolls have their own factories in India. All the willow is cut, kiln-dried and graded in Robertsbridge before its sent over to the Indian factory.

We recently did a video on one of the new 2016 model bats and specifically mentioned just how good the finishing was on the bat. Thier in-house set up ensures they are producing bats of the highest quality.

Even those companies that are sourcing from the likes of SG, SS and Sondhi are again doing so from some of the finest production set ups that I have ever seen where the manufacturing processes are of the highest standard.

Thanks all. Unfortunately my friends were unable to find any GN bats in local stores at Bangalore. I am quite they visited only a couple of shots. I asked for GN and i got a few other branaded goodies ... so i am not complaining  ;)

Cadejo players gloves, GM Icon 808 & Kahuna 1000 bat (still in bubble wrap) are mine. Rest are items purchased by other team members.

Just confirmed with my friend. All these items were purchased at "Crown Cricketer" - Bangalore. The shop owner mentioned that Gray Nics India bats are graded as follows ...

* Legend GN10 - Grade 1+ or players level willow
* e41 GN9 & Maverick GN8 - entry level grade 1
* Powerbow GN7, DyanDrive GN6 - Grade 2 bats
* Rest of them GN5, GN4 and GN3 are grade 3 or lower bats

All the bats come with Oval Handle and GN grip. The willow quality is comparable to certain models sold in UK. => I don't fully understand this either. If i get to know more, i will update this thread.

That specific shop doesn't deal with Gray Nics directly. They buy from another distributor. So they only had a few grade 3 bats in stock.
