but they aren't as good! THat's like being told I have to watch this current Man UTd team rather than the good ones.. why would I want to do that!!

Its interesting you say that. I only have one point of reference, so bear with me.

I watched Australia play since the 80 s rebel tours. They weren't as good as the teams that preceded them, but by the 90s under strong leadership, discipline and persistence we witnessed this team of one day contenders dominate both forms of the game.

Its arguable that Ponting retired as team were on the decendency. Clarke era was littered with rescues at test level, rather than sheer dominance. The Clarke team won a world cup and now again after a string of retirements the Smith era is dominating teams that killed us in the 80s. Are they as good. I'll reserve my opinion until they play worthy opponents.

SA's Smith coming out of retirement does not address a issue with the development system itself. If they are not as good, its systematic and not solved by veterans.

As much as i never liked Warners behaviour ( or Kohli) given time in a system of success they have matured from 20/20 sloggers into test players with great records....note i didn't say great players.

Let the system fix itself and unearth new talent and if it can't fix the system.
