Well I've finally got around to refurbish my bats for next season, and was able to remove most of the bat tape with a hair dryer.  However there is still some glue residue and strings of tape left that just won't come off, any advice on how best to get this off?  Do I just carry on with the sanding?

White spirit and an old credit card.  Dab the white spirit over the residue and scub with the card.  Usually works a treat for me.

If all the muck left is dry and flaky, ie the tape string remnants just crumble to dust when you touch them, then they will sand off fairly easily, if there's sticky glue residue anywhere then that's what tends to clog sandpaper up so the white spirit method mentioned above is useful.

I've tried several different solvents for getting sticky tape residue off.  White spirit is definitely the best.  Nail Polish remover works well.  I've also used sports tape removal fluid which is similar, but not quite as effective

stanley knife blade held at 90 degrees to the blade and scrape it off. this will remove glue/ residue so your sandpaper doesnt get blocked with gluey gunk

its really easy. ive never been a fan of putting anything liquid based on my bats except the obvious oil etc. as long as you dont start angling it down where you could slice into the wood you will be fine. all your doing is scratching the material down to the surface of the willow

Struggling to do this to my Blueroom. Used hairdryer to get most of the edge tape off but still a fair bit left on, with sticky residue. Tried vodka (white spirit) and nail varnish remover to limited effect! So the new plan is to just cover it in more tape...

A safer version to johns suggestion is to use a pair of scissors to scrape of the glue. Not as sharp so not likely to take a chunk of willow out but still do the job
