Buckles on pads.......yeah had a pair or 2 of those old style pads...wonder how many guys on this forum were playing when these were around??  I think we're showing our age here by admitting this fact mate...

Me buckles on pads and pimples on The back of cloth gloves for protection mind you the gloves felt better on the bat handle

The members who are saying that you wear the ends inside to avoid nicks are correct and the members wearing them the other way to avoid them rubbing against each other are also correct.
I have velcros on my pads (SG ultralite - ambidextrous pads) and a small little trick can make is irrelevant whether you were the straps inside or outside. I glued pieces of Velcro on the side of the pads where the remaining end of the extra strap is supposed to be when my pad is tight around my legs. So the ends of my pad's straps wrap around my legs and again go in the front of the pads a bit. I got this idea from Morrent Ultimate pads. Those pads don't need extra Velcro through.

Have a look at Ashwin's batting pads when he is batting with his Morrents (his legs are also probably tiny like mine lol!) and you will understand what I mean.

I wear them so the straps finish on the outside from the days when my straps used to be too long. Now my straps don't over hang so not an issue either way but I've stuck with the same way. It would feel weird to change. Next you'll be asking me to put my right shoe on first, I'm not mad!

If you look at the new H4L softs the devil branding is in different shades of blue on each pad, and if you correspond that with the gloves it shows the buckles are supposed to be on the inside

With Kookaburra pads they made the front leg one cane wider, with the plastic buckle on the outside.

Its obvious both types have their disadvantages.. It is down to personal preference as to which disadvantage is more tolerant than the other to one. I find it quite irritating to have the strap ends of both legs rubbing against each other, so strap ends outside for me. Also for some reason, i feel it is easier to tighten the straps when they end on the outside of the leg than on the inside as i find it easier to pull outside than inwards, so that is the way for me.

I was a buckle wearer from my junior and early adult days was told to wear the buckle on the outside save it catching and ripping the other pad when running and to also took the left over strap into the pad or to cut off any excess strap  I continued the buckle on the outside when plastic and Velcro took over  I even cut the strap to shorten the Velcro straps when I had skinny legs ( no problem there now )
