Old skool carbon fibre inserts?

I thought the use of carbon fibre was a relatively new fad in cricket.
Turns out it's not, judging by this photo. Or am I mistaken?

The fact that it says on the bat "carbon fibre spring" would suggest that it is in the handle.

Other manufacturers were using steel springs, so carbon fibre would be a logical step. Carbon fibre started being used in aircraft engines in the 60s which would fit in with bat which is probably late 60s / early 70s

They are referring to a carbon spring handle carbon rod in modern bats is only tiny its placed at the back of the handle at the bottom.
