I've only ever had bats with a quality edge, the middle of mine never seems to get any cherries or crack

Wasn't the idea behind Hunts County's Revolution bat to emulate the high performance of a delaminated bat?

Surface cracks are, using the true definition, a bat 'opening up'. Jake from Vitas explains this well.

Theoretically speaking, the natural decomposition of all mater is an impregnable process. Some form of matter decomposes slower or faster then others.

Same goes with timber.
The moisture will keep drying over the years (at a slower rate may be) till it gets dry and brittle. And the bat WILL lose its ping.

Imagine playing with those dark brown 1950"s bats in the museums - I don't think that willow will have much life left in it.

I have also heard that during hot summer days, keeping the bat in a car trunk for long times will choke the life out of the blade as the moisture will quickly dry out of the timber.

My old gray nicks is coming up to 30 yrs old, but still pings better than any bat I've seen!

Only reason I've not got it re handled is because I stupidly cut the blade down for my son to use
The bat has no de lamination

I measured a six I hit many moons ago with it, at well over 100m with this bat
I'm lucky if I can clear 80m these days

out of curiosity.......is this particular bat you have gone out of your way to look after? or it just happens to still PING out of luck....or maybe because back-in-the-day they made bats.......'properly' as in made to last.

I agree, I enjoy a similar experience with a 25 yr old bat. My old bat has been well looked after though

Don't bats apparently reach their leak performance just before they start to delaminate?
Not that many on here use one for long enough to know, but I'm sure I've seen that somewhere

I've had one that delaminated, a GN Oblivion Carbo. I scored a lot of runs with it but funnily enough I never really rated its performance. Once it delaminated I used that as an excuse to go buy a new bat, so couldn't tell you whether it was better or worse to be honest.

The bats never been looked after as such
Must have thousands of runs on it

Just stuck a vernier calliper on it

I'm sure it was about 2.8 when new,,the bloke I got it off said it was too heavy!!
And in those days, you couldn't buy a duff gray nicks
I paid 25 quid for it!!

There is a bit of de lam on the face, but probably from dodgy balls
