Getting used to a new helmet
« on: May 23, 2016, 09:43:13 PM »

I've changed this season from an old style Masuri test with steel grill to the Masuri vision test with single bar titanium grill, but have had trouble getting used to it. So far this season ive had scores of 0, 17*, 0, 6, 37* and 68. Of these, the ducks and 6 were in my new lid, the 17* in a cap and latest two in my old lid. I know I just need to practice and get used to the new one, but has anyone else had any issues getting used to the new helmets?
For what its worth, and having seen one of my colts helmets after he got hit backing up, I feel safe in the new one but it is heavier and has made me feel unbalanced. That said I received plenty of bouncers this weekend and felt fine against them all in my old helmet.

Wear it around the house.

Make tea, watch telly. Do some choirs. You'll soon get used to the weight and the grill will dissapear from view.

Afraid you'll just have to wear it until you get used to it. The new models are heavier but the single grill version shouldn't give you any issues unless your old helmet was set up badly. Try wearing it round the house until it feels comfortable (no pics required for this please!)

I took the above advice of wearing this around the house and doing normal stuff in it (don't go down the BP garage in it mind cause they'll call the police) that will help.

Watch a Tennis match at nearest court while wearing your new Helmet... It will help adjust your eyes & will boost self confidence in public  :D

@mohawks94 Same issue with a Shrey that I purchased last year. Never used it in a match after being freaked out playing in the nets, the grill setup is too narrow or something weird. Reverted back to old masuri even though I know it is less safe. The grill in the Shrey just does not seem to work for me.

I found playing FIFA on the Xbox in my new lid really helped me.

Gave it a try yesterday. Something has clicked after runs last weekend, was a lot more balanced at the crease and was able to work stuff through leg easily. Chairman/ump was a bit surprised when I worked one hitting off stump through mid wicket but works for me! Didn't have any trouble with falling over, only mistake was staying back to one back of a length that shot through low and took my off stump

Only issue I had with a helmet was my colts in the nets whilst I was batting, one of my star batsmen without a helmet on. Had to shout from the middle between overs. Little talking to this morning to start training, my admin agreed when I told her.
