I'm blessed with a glass ankle, which caused me issues a couple of seasons ago.
I used kinesio tape to do a botch job on it one week (when I damaged it fielding) and wore a proper ankle support after that. If it's a long term think you're better off buying a decent support than taping it up in my opinion.
I've basically always strapped my ankles and I did my knee quote badly a few years ago, surgery and 10 months off, so now strap that too.
The physio that i did my reconstruction gave me the reverse advise to WalkingWickets.
Taping allows you to get a customised fit every time and also allows you to put the support exactly where you need it.
While a guard is convenient, it does't cover all of your exact needs.
At the least, go and see a decent sports physio so they can give you the correct strapping for your exact need.
If you're pretty serious about your cricket and your injury is possibly preventing you performing to your peak, preventing further selection etc, also look into a podiatrist.
I got some really good orthotics and some additional strapping techniques that gave me a massive improvement in my ankles, which were similar from what you described.
