https://twitter.com/Wansteadcc/status/746979115828453376So a team in our league structure, in the Prem division, are now giving their under 11s the opportunity to be "mascots" for the day where they also perform the non playing roles of 12th man i.e carrying bottles of drinks on or gloves for batsmen or running drinks out at the fall of every wicket. Having queried the East London Cricket twitter account that i didn't agree a kid should be carrying drinks for clubbies they argued that the experience inspired an aspired the kid.
What do others think, like me that the arrogance and Egos for an amateur side to employ kids to run around after them when he should be netting or playing in the park or watching professional games or that this will make kids dream to become an amateur club cricketer for the club that they play colts cricket for?
I think perhaps Strauss got it right when he said the amateur club game was becoming too professional like. As an average 1st XI player I'd be embarrassed to have an 11 year old run around after me.
