Newbery quantum l.e
« on: June 06, 2016, 07:18:21 PM »

Hi all, right thought I'd do a little review on my latest purchase.
Saw this online at lorrimers sports on eBay. Do my usual YouTube review and saw the shape was pretty nice so I took a punt and ordered it. Firstly it struck me as good value at£225 as most places have these for £299. So bat arrived just in time for Saturday morning. Gave it a top with the mallet seemed good to go. Although my innings Saturday was brief. Having said that three or four drives with this was nothing short of incredible. The sound, the power, everything. It flew! One issue with lorrimers was you don't get to pick the actual weight. So I went for a medium 2.9/2.11 I've weighed it as 2.10 so happy with that, I would say it picks up half an ounce lighter but nothing to write home about. There is a bit of concaving however I wouldn't say it was drastic but if anything it helps extend the middle up and down the blade. 9 grains and completely blemish free, lovely bit of wood. Now for the big negative.... stickers....well... I genuinely would expect a little better from newbery. The front one, I can't fault looks classy and modern at the same time. The issue is with the toe sticker, it doesn't fit nor stick particularly well. Having said this if that's the only down fall I'm on to a winner. Here's some pics...

I like but Newbury's finishing seems a bit sub-par of late.

Totally agree on the application of stickers, peeled off the back of my blitz in no time.

Nice stick, but stickers over the spine always seem to come off on most bats

Bat looks stunning do you have a shot to see the amount of concaving because for that price is be very tempted to purchase one myself, you can never go wrong with newbery they always produce amazing bats

Yep stickers are a let down, hope they Improve them next year as the toe sticker seems a bit if an after thought. There a small amount of concaving however not enough to put you off buying one IMO. Having used a couple of sps newbery bats I can't see any difference I'd go as far to say it performs better then those I have uses. The chunky toe is a bonus as well. Most of us on here aren't lucky enough to play on top notch wickets every week so will help with that.

looks good buddy!  How is the ping?

Based on online reviews, my team mate bought a quantum LE from newberry's website and I helped him knock it. Here's my take of that particular bat. I cant speak for all Quantum LE's but just that one bat.

    • weight: 2.9, pickups like a 2.9
    • The sweet spot is limited to a narrow band that runs across the length of the bat. a lean vertical rectangle instead of a fat horizontal rectangle, if that makes sense  ;)
    • the stickers were not cut to the exact measurements of the bat and hence there was a lot of dangling at the edges. my friend was annoyed and will soon get rid of the stickers
Knocking it was a PIA and it felt very planky and hard even after 4 hours of hard knocks. Hopefully it will open up after 1 season.
I have just one pic of the bat, will upload it to photobucket and post it here soon. but overall, i'm not too happy with that particular Quantum LE. I own a UZI 5* that taps up much better than my friend's quantum LE!  :o
