Wicket Keeping Gloves wanted for a 10 year old
« on: November 02, 2016, 08:42:22 PM »

I am looking for a quality pair of wicket keeping gloves for a 10 year old. He's really into his cricket and Im willing to invest in a decent pair as long as they fit him correctly to help him develop his game properly. Wicket keeping gloves for kids of this age aren't easy to buy off the shelf in retail stores - they may have 1 pair that caters for a child of this age. Ideally we'd go into a shop and try some pairs on - which Im sure we will do when he is older and the selection increases - but its just as effective at this age to buy them online for him due to the lack of choice in store.

Any advice on who stocks a decent pair of gloves for a youngster would be much appreciated. They'll be one of his Christmas presents.

Thanks to anyone who can help

All about fit and comfort especially at that age. You really are best off finding a stockist on here with a decent range and making the effort to visit them. Otherwise you're neglecting the one thing you said you wanted out of a pair of gloves and that's fit.

I need a bat for an eleven year old

I need gloves for a ten yer old

I am absolutely not trying to be rude to you, but I hear these statements from parents all the time. They are meaningless to me, the size is not related to the age of the child. I would suspect being 10 their hands are going to be very small and we don't stick a massive amount of very small wk gloves, but could source them easily if nothing we had was suitable

He's got little hands - hands of a 10 year old. Bats different as they get categorised into relative sizes linked to height but gloves come in small boy size and thats about it. Id love to take him to a shop to try a few pairs on and get a great fit - but the local stores only stock 1 pair in each for small boys wicket keeping gloves - and they're big multi chain retailers too. He's got small hands and he's 10 is about the best I can offer. Getting a pair that has been tried and fitted would be ideal but thats not likely - you've obviously not bought kit for a small child Vitas ! Its not as easy as buying for say a boy or a youth or in adult sizes. Bats easier at that age, batting gloves and pads tricky enough, wicket keeping gloves more difficult.

I would argue bats are more difficult. The height charts are a great guide and starting point but i size  up each child based on a number of factors. Where on he handle they grip it,  their stance, the length of their arms and legs, as well as their overall height.
Gloves are easier, i look at their hands, and we try some on. They fit or they don't.

All of the above is far easier done in person of course, doing it remotely is tough.

A few brands we stock go down as small as extra small boys for their wk kit, I cannot recall the brand (I think gray Nics) but we have ordered a cool little set for the young/small keeper. Gloves, inners and pads all in one box, XS boys, S boys and boys size from Memory.

Feel free to give me a call or email to discuss

Ps yes you are correct, I don't have any kids ;)

TBH I wasn't aware that Vitas was a specialist stockist - Romida and All Rounder up here and not much choice for a young want-to-be wicket keeper in terms of gloves. Im sure he's dealt with a lot of kids kit but as he says its less than ideal remotely and Id rather make the effort to visit and try them on......but not Peterborough ! Somewhere in Yorkshire would be great. Bought a helmet for him online last season and its still in the (now crumpled) box in the car - completely unsuitable - good fit but huge weight. Ended up using the lining though to pad out another helmet and that worked. So was hoping to avoid ordering gloves online if possible - a local store would be great......even better a smaller brand who might have a leaning and an affinity towards wicket keeping. Just being hopeful I guess ! It'll have to be Gunn and Moore, Slazenger, Gray Nics or Kookaburra I guess and bought online.

@WSB we are based in Yorkshire however I think what you are looking for has a very small audience and therefore some of the smaller suppliers/brands won't stock them as chances are they would be stuck with lots of stock that doesn't sell (good news for you buyers as there will be lots of sales).

As an online store we know well that purchasing online can sometimes require a bit of guess work however all the forum sponsors are here to help (apologies for speaking for you all) so just drop us a message and we will see what we can do.

Looks like Allrounder do "Boys" sizes in Kook at least? Have you tried those?
