Following the impressive size 3 he made for my daughter I asked John for a bat for myself. The only gap I have in my armoury was for an unnecessarily large bat, so I asked John to make me one as big as possible and not to worry about the weight and this is what he did.
Weight: 2lb14oz
Edge: 46mm
Spine: 60mm
Toe: 23mm
Shoulder: 15mm
Middle: mid
Handle: thin semi-oval (youth sized hands)
Cost £187 inc delivery and knocking in
Review:
Out of the box the quality of the finishing was obvious and it arrived without a single blemish. The face has 12/13 grains and is 3/4 heartwood. There is a tiny spot of graping perfectly positioned in the middle of the bat.
It is about 20mm shorter blade than a standard SH, and being the weight it is it is no feather. I'm not going to BS people saying it picks up like a 2lb10oz bat as it doesn't, but to me the handle shape is more important than the dead weight when it comes to pick up, and the handle shape suits me well. Performance wise it appears extremely good., the NV is my favourite bat and it would appear that the Red Ink is certainly on a par.
Overall, I think Red Ink offer some of the best value bats out there, fantastic quality and performance regardless of the size/grade of bat.
Cheers John another winner.
