Working with MacGill is a great shout, great leggie, would have taken hatfulls of test wickets if he hadn't been around at the same time as a certain Mr Warne.

I'd heard the Macgill was working with someone and this selection was on the cards. Didn't know who. Good luck to him, although I'm hoping the spiders win.

Good - I hope he gets a load of experience and comes back to the English season and takes a heap of wickets. Be nice to have a young up and coming spinner to keep those in possession on their toes!

Hopefully this will spell the end for Rashid too!

Some competition for places amongst the spinners would defiantly not go a miss..

I don't understand why people always say McGill was kept out of the team by warne. Even McGill himself said that he'd probably never have got in the team at all if warne hadn't made leg spin not just appealing but deemed necessary by the selectors.

Good news for England, fingers crossed he does well

Used to love McGill with his longer run up, he gave the ball a proper rip! His batting was always amusing to watch aswell

Fair point I suppose! I was more meaning that MacGill was probably in the top few leg spinners in the world and would have probably walked into any other team in the world barring Australia (Warne) and India (Kumble) but like you say it's probably moot because without Warne most non-Asian teams would not have entertained playing a leg spinner as much.

Yeah I totally agree any other team would have loved to have him provided they put a weight of runs in front of him! he wasn't quite as parsimonious as Warne. Not sure that 90's England for instance could have got the best out of him without them scoring a heap of runs, he was still bowling well mid 2000's though. Imagine a 2005 ashes parallel universe where macgill was English and him and warne faced off on opposing sides!

Why has Sheffield Shield cricket so reluctant to welcome overseas players? I'd never really given it much thought until today.

English cricket expects overseas players because our season is out of synch with the season everywhere else. Other countries do not tend to have them.

Plenty of English players are over there playing grade cricket?

And he's playing, fittingly just received his cap from Stuart McGill.
