Gray Nicolls Test Opener Helmet (or Masuri OS legacy)
« on: March 28, 2017, 10:37:29 AM »

I was wondering does anyone have any experiences in regards to this helmet i.e quality, sizing? I am currently using an old style Masuri in smalls mens and i would say I am right at the upper limit for that helmet and its fits very well but snug. The equivalent in Gray Nicolls it seems would be the medium 57-58 cm but i know helmets can have different fits and shapes between brands.

Failing that does anyone have experiences of the new Masuri OS legacy helmet? It would seem a simple thing that a small mens in the old masuris would mean small mens in the newer helmets but I have heard the new helmets particularly in the OS series are tighter fitting shape along with different padding inside the helmet have meant many people have gone up a size from their old Masuris.

Of course in an ideal world I could get to a retailer and try these all on but that isn't really possible so the next best thing would be to purchase a few options and select the best but if I could get some feedback that would help cut down these options that would be helpful. Thanks in advance

Having tried on one of the GN helmets while visiting Vitas, it wasn't for me.
There's no doubt that it's a high quality product, but they only come in one size, which didn't fit my head comfortably! Since trying various helmets i have discovered i have an unusual shaped head though, so it may fit you perfectly.

As for the OS2, i think you'd probably be okay in a standard size if you were a small in the old style. I was a standard size in my old style masuri and my Vision Series, but had to go up to a large for my OS2.

Just to throw a spanner in the works, @DorsetDan gave the Gunner & Moore helmet a rave review, so this could be another option worth considering.

+1 on @WalkingWicket37 comments about size.

GN large/x-large sizing is still an impossible fit on my head. However a Masuri standard is tight fit but Masuri-Large is a good fit for my head. I would recommend trying them out before buying ...

Definitely try before you buy, I found the gm lid and the masuri lids fit well for me.

Cheeky but order via online a couple.. try on.. send back any you don't want..

Cost to you just postage in the end for a couple of helmets.. distance selling laws allow you to return things
