I'm finally getting around to sorting my new bats out.

When applying scuff sheets do people cut the scuff into a 'U' shape to go along the curved toe or just leave it straight inline with the edge and leave the bottom exposed, also how far up from the edges of toe do you cut the scuff sheet?

Also, what is a cheaper alternative to Shoe Goo?

Scuff sheets I Place on the bat right down the toe of the bat and use a sharp pair of scissors or the like to trim it to the shape of the toe.
As for shoo goo, you can use some water proof wood glue or yacht varnish

Cheers both! How do you stop the scuff from coming off when you run your bat in if you attach it so low?

Outdoor wood varnish works well for me too as suggested to me by @WalkingWicket37

If you're putting something on the toe like the yacht varnish or glue, then it will give a barrier between the bat and the ground so helps stop the scuff sheet getting caught and tearing up, you could also slightly overlay the wood glue onto the bottom of the scuff sheet seeing as it will dry clear and this will make sure it doesn't come up by sealing it down

I cut the scuff around the toe. Re shoe goo , i apply it on the toe and around the face, back, edges for about 5mm( creates a toe cap of sorts). No one else really seems to do this , but whenever batmakers , cricket retailers , clubmates etc see my bats they always comment on how nice the shoe goo application is . .... to the point where people ask me to do it for them . I find the extra goo around the toe (face , back, edges) helps against yorker and moisture damage and even helps hold toe cracks in tact for longer. I recently had the worst toe impact on an old net bat which im sure would have been a toe explosion if not for the shoe goo.

I am going to try the clear outdoor varnish approach opposed to shoo goo or a toe guard.

Has anyone had experience with applying it? How would you go about it, and how long does it take to dry?

Varnish won't protect the toe of your bat on a hard surface, only from moisture and even then that's debatable, I've found bats that have a treated toe like GM seem to swell worse than those that haven't, why I am not sure. Can't say shoo goo is expensive ( Here anyway ) not when you get 20-30 applications a tube for $15.

I was doing this yesterday and I apply the scuff then cut around the shape of the toe - I did toy with the idea of cutting it before but thought better against it.
