I've always loved Tim Bresnan as a cricketer - used to bowl more sharply than people gave him credit for, and very handy with the bat as well. This is why it pains me so much to see, in my eyes, a definite drop in level from him this season. All those elbow issues have really robbed him of the surprise pace he had, and while his batting certainly has improved from the beginning and middle of his career, I still think batting at 6 is one place at least too high for him.

I'd love to know what other people's opinions are on him nowadays - still a class act or slowly declining? Personally, I'd want to see him batting at 7 or 8 as opposed to 6.

It does seem like a sad inevitability sooner rather than later - bowling just not looking that threatening anymore, and not quite good enough to make the team just as a batsman. Probably can't keep him on in the team just for leadership qualities.

Anyone else sensing the second coming of Big Tim as an off-spinning allrounder?

He looked very pacey live when I was at the t20 last sunday.

In fact of all the bowler's on show, his bouncer was the only one that hurried the batsmen, everyone else was easy pickings.
John Hastings being one, a current aus international who looked very ordinary.

He can bowl sharp balls, but not so much sharp spells. But he still bowls good areas and does a bit with it. He's a good seven - he bats a spot higher when England nick all our players, and ahead of the more talented rashid on temperament grounds.

He bowls decent grippy  offies in the nets...

...and has five years left.

Thats good to hear, that his bowling is still threatening. Perhaps one gets the feeling that, with his elbow issues, T20 will become more and more ideally suited to him.

I think 7 is ideal for him - when England come calling and he ends up at 6, it makes the tail appear longer than it realistically is. With the 4 day batting of players like Rashid and Willey not progressing as hoped for, maybe his batting will become more and more crucial.

He bowled well for Yorkshire the other night  against Durham in the t20 but  he has lost a yard in pace  but that doesnt matter as he put the ball in the right areas.

As @Seniorplayer said in his post Bresnan was exceptional with the ball Vs Durham. He put the ball in a great area ball after ball. He might have lost a yard but the control was exceptional

Bres has diversified his game as he's gone on. Got a lot better with the bat and concentrates on areas rather than pace.
Was underrated for England.

His first 2 overs were maidens and picked up a wicket vs durham

He was class in Australia in 2010, I wasn't really a fan before that.  I then met him in Dubai a few years ago and he was a proper lovely bloke. Hope he can keep playing at a high level.

Still a good player if he remains major injury free cannot see why he cannot go on for a few more years. Yorkshire are not that that good they can do without him to be frank. Side bottom coming to the end, bairstow and root away with England and Alex lees and jack leaning has not come on as well as they might.

From my seat down south they cannot do without Bres.

Under rated player and he's brilliant in that away ashes series. Every time I looked at Yorkshires score last year he made a decent contribution.

Its good to see people still right behind him - as I said in my original post, always been a big fan of his. There's a great video on YouTube of him bowling to Shane Watson in that away Ashes series where he was at his very best - looked practically unplayable at that specific point with the reverse swing he generated. Here's to many more years of Big Tim.
