Hi guys, I've decided today that I am going to try using two coloured balls for my bowling practice to see the trajectory in which the ball is released and goes down as, along with also seeing how different grips on the ball affect the seam positioning (yes I did get the idea watching the Daniel Vettori masterclass) as a left arm spinner I'm always looking for slight variations in my deliveries. Has anyone else had any success with this tactic?

Im a left arm spinner too . Its a good thing to use to see if your stock ball is spinning on the axis of the seam . Also is handy to see if the seam stays straight for your arm ball , and to see just how scrambled your scrambled/cross seam deliveries are ... so , basically - yeah , go for it , it will be good feedback .

That's exactly what I was thinking. I am also curious to see why when I bowl a quicker ball it turns back into the right handers as I'm not trying to spin it the other way but I've noticed this recently as I've actually got 3 wickets in 2 games with this happening so it will be interesting to see what the seam is doing for these deliveries.

Probably cause your trying to bowl it so quick & to do with your finger placement.
My quicker ball just gets only a little bit of turn but alot of bounce & zip.

That's interesting and would make some sense, I won't complain too much as of the three wickets one was an ex pro with 4 first class hundreds and another was solid club cricketer with 15 career hundreds but that does help explain a few things

If you're bowling a quicker ball with a normal finger spinners grip it could be that you're arm is going beyond the perpendicular.  If you're bowling a quicker ball seam up you may be angling the seam in such a way as to hit the seam and deviate inwards . Just a guess though , you'll probably get more of an idea once you start using the two tone ball. Or you can video yourself bowling the two deliveries and compare the difference.

Would this be considered a technical flaw or is it still fine as its not been an issue so far and my view is if I'm not sure what the balls going to do then what chance has the batsmen got?

Nothing is a flaw if it gets a desired result . If you want your quicker ball to do something else then perhaps you would want to change what you are doing now . Or , if your quicker ball is delivered with an obviously different action / arm speed etc , then you may want to adjust it . Otherwise , leave it be .

I think its quite handy as it literally just changes as the arm comes over generating more pace but its getting batsmen out so I won't complain as its something that is very different to anything else I bowl. I have two quicker balls the regulation grip and then an outswinger style delivery which I try to bowl at near enough a yorker length at the end of an innings or in T20 games
