« on: March 15, 2009, 01:18:56 PM »

today ws the last game of my teams season today and i have to say im glad its over.
i normally love cricket 24/7 but for the last 2 months or so i've been looking forward to end of the season.

just wondering how many other blokes have 'lost the passion' for cricket and how they overcame it?

I felt exactly the same. At the end of the day if you would rather be doing something else, then go for it. I personally dreaded the 50 over games where it just drags on and on and on. You just gotta make sure you are not taking for granted the good parts, like the banter in the field and the fact, if the weather is nice, you're spending a nice day in a field just playing a relaxing game with your mates. It beats pissing about on the computer for hours!

I also have enjoyed cricket a lot more even though i have been having not much of a weekend due to cricket all day both days, the banter in the field really helps, espeically when it gets good :P

I know it's probably of no use to you but I used to feel the same towards the end of the season. I've been injured for 2 years and unable to play. I thought I may not play again, but tomrw i'm heading back into the nets. My point - You really never know how much you really do love it until you realise you may not do it again - so i'd say enjoy it as much as possible and I hope you never have a 'career threatening' injury

we have a 72 year old who plays for our 2nd XI and his commitment and passion for the game is 100%. Maybe you would like to talk with him.

I used to take cricket so seriously that the game lost its gloss for me, however once I got a bit older I started to chillout more and played hard but didn't beat myself up when the game went against us or I had a bad day... I found this improved both my performance and love for the game.

Remember at cricket there are probably on a personal performance side more downs than ups no matter how good you are... but for me that makes the ups even more enjoyable when they happen.

I really hope you find the love for the game again like I did however follow your own heart mate.

feels like a chore alot of the time. i hate cricket.

but theres something inside that makes me like the idea of playing.

i enjoy the after match and the thought of it, but the actual fielding for 96 overs in a day is the worst.and to walk off sometimes with 3 or 4 wickets from 96 overs , its no fun at all.

its obviously great to score runs, but when your not i am counting down the days to 'i have to play again'

Sorry to bring up an old topic but I am starting to feel the same at the moment...

I'm tired of playing on crappy wickets where people playing cow corner across the line are scoring more runs than people (like me) playing properly are getting low scores because one pops up on a drive.

I'm tired of our captain already... I didn't get a chance either of the first two games, so I asked him for a chance to bat. He chucked me in at the deep end and I made 12, our team didn't bat out the overs, so I did nothing wrong. Next week I'm back down at 9. No offence to some of the other lads but one of our guys was in the top 5 every game last season, averaged 6.5, and has been in the top 4 every game this season and averaged about 6.

I bowl consistently with decent pace in the nets, I bowl pacier than all but one of our 2XI bowlers and more consistently. However, I've only bowled 4 overs in 3 years of senior cricket, taking 4-1-7-1.

I give 100% in the field, won fielder of the year last season and been by far the best fielder so far this year.

I think I'm gonna stick out this year then move clubs if I don't get a decent run higher up the order or bowling like I deserve.

I suffered a lose of interest to the point where I hoped it would rain so I didn't have to play.  I then spent 6 or 7yrs out of the game.  I think it was a mixture of reasons - mainly that I would get frustrated as I could never seem to make the most of my technical ability due to confidence issues, getting out for a poor score would put me in a mood all week.  Over my playing career I went through periods where I felt like quiting mainly when as a youngster.  I was made to play for the 1st 11 and bat in the lower order because you club was struggling at the time and i had a decent technique so could hold up an end for the draw if needed.  This was frustraiting as I would have been better batting in the top order in the 2nd team developing my batting.  Because I was quiet and seemed to love the game I think they though I would be happy to do whatever, but I just felt I was making up the numbers.  I eventually one season I made a stance to only play 2nds and in the 10 league games left I think I averaged 60 or 70 odd after 2 dodgy decisions in the last couple of games wrecked my bradman like stats.  I then had a couple of succesful seasons opening in the 1st which saw us promoted 2yrs in a row and an ok season in Oz (averaged over 40 but only due to 2 big scores), which got my interest up again dispite growing interest in other sports.  I then had a bad year - trouble at work, girls, team was on a lossing streak etc etc which saw my form dip though I top scored in the 1st 3 games.  Despite the fact no one else performed either and my average was actually better than the other openers because I seemed to have a lot of expectation I got dropped down the line up dispite the fact I was actually begining to get back into form.  No one told me until moments before we were due to bat - after that I lost interest and played for rain every saturday.  The following year I was hitting the ball well in training but never got a prolonged chance having been run out for 20 in the only game I opened in and spending the rest of the time playing as a spinner. The one game I played in the 2nds I got a high score without really trying so had no interest in going back down to that level.  I decided that I should leave the game.  I have played again this year though I must say 50 overs fielding seemed to drag, but it was good to see what was left of my batting technique.
