Delamination Repair
« on: January 03, 2018, 04:13:30 PM »

Following the posting of this video in another topic I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for UK based repairs for delaminating bats. Have seen a few pictures flying around but wondered if anyone has any first hand positive stories. Mainly looking at repairing a delaminated middle with slight cracks rather than a full split as in the video but you get the idea. Advice appreciated and heres an interesting repair video...

That was some delamination repair. What happens to the performance after repair? Would it have deteriorated after?

No, it doesn't affect the performance at all. You just get rid of that hollow sound.

I did one yesterday. Most of the middle had come away (you could put a knife between the top layer of wood and the section below). It was very hollow. I lifted the large piece of delimitation with a couple of knives and then poured glue in, clamped and have left over night. It will be good to go once dried and sanded.

Thanks for the thoughts. Does anyone have anyone they have used to repair such a thing?

I do mine myself but any batmaker local to you will do it (except M&H).
Also, the worse it is the easier the repair as it is easier to lift the top surface and stuff glue into the void. A small area with little cracking is far more difficult in my experience.
