Just spent two hours rolling our square, it’s dried out a lot since Saturday
Should be fine in a week, but no chance this week

Our deck is drying out nicely. Going to look at it tomorrow night after a hot day to see if it will be good enough to play on. If so we might attempt a morning game from 9.30-1.30 - 35 overs a side if all else fails. Just depends if can get the ground ready.

I cut the square on the main pitch Tuesday, the square is ok and firm, but our second pitch square is a dog!!  the main problem is our outfields as they are really soft.  If you stood still for to long you would sink.

Hopefully the changing in the weather has come just in time.

Same for us the wicket is probably playable although will be soft and spongy bounce but the outfield is still very damp, grass cut Tue so hopefully that will allow the lovely weather to dry it but we have a inspection Friday lunch time for this weekends fixtures although I think unlikely as groundsmen is against playing this weekend

Many groundsman are killjoys. More concerned with with how it reflects on them or how pristine it is, instead of simply getting a game on. If it's not a great deck and everyone accepts it then just play. For example, my old club Marlow, current Groundsman says no but my old man, who use to do the deck, would of let us play on it if he had his way.

This is the down side of covers. 30-40 years ago, we played on damp green wickets as it was the norm as few clubs had covers. Now, unless the thing is bone dry, brown and virtually grassless the groundsman will freak out if you try and play on it.

Yep, the spring hasn't been helpful but we've had nearly a week of sun and above average temperatures in April and the number of games off really does surprise me. I bet there will be alot of players staring at there decks come Saturday wondering how they didn't play.

And another thing (rant alert), I've heard stuff like "not sure it will recover if we use it now". It's bloody April, if it turns into a muddy pile of dirt then you brush it and seed it. Only 6 months of growing weather to fix it lol
