After years of playing at a club run by a one-man committee as a de facto dictatorship, I'm delighted to be attending a properly-run AGM for my new club tonight.
At my old club the AGM was not well advertised, agenda/minutes were not prepared or circulated and the whole thing was done as a formality. While the members did always give their opinions, they were informal and nothing was ever done. In fact, I spent the last few seasons complaining that we were paying our subs but our wishes (eg around which league we played in etc) were not being listened to.
Does that ring a bell with anyone, or are you all at well-run clubs with excellent committees?
My new club has circulated last year's minutes and season report well ahead of time, and the AGM for tonight has a clear agenda. I'm sure it won't be a strictly formal affair but it's great to have some structure.
