Home refurbs
« on: April 07, 2018, 04:16:15 PM »

I've found myself with time on my hands at the moment having dropped out of university. Because of this, and to give me a break from job hunting, I have started doing some work on a couple of my bats, namely my GN F18 and GM Flare. I didn't take pics all the way through the GN refurb, but I have been during the GM so please humour me!

Before work, the GN looked like this:

And after it looks like this with helicopter scuff fitted:

I found a small crack at the tip of the splice which I glued and taped, plus a crack in the toe. Tape on the middle is for some general surface wear and tear.

The GM was a harder job because it hasn't had any work done to it since I had it repaired at GM in 2013. This was it before I started:

Of course, scuff sheet came off first, plus plenty of work with brasso/white spirit to take off the tape:

I took a slight nick out of the face through a combination of removing scuff sheet and scraping off the glue, but all looks ok besides that:

That was how I left it last night. Next bit to tackle is a proper sand of the face- its had a light hand sanding and the edges are done completely- and to start on the back of the bat.

Sorry to hear about Uni but good stuff on the refurbs. Always satisfying to breath new life in to a trusted old bat and amazing how far PVA, tape, sand paper and elbow grease can get you 😀

Cheers Dan. I was doing a primary pgce but it wasn't working for me, wasn't sleeping or eating!

Took advantage of my parents being out to do some sanding in the living room in front of the fire. With the electric sander. Hoovering done as well so they'll have no idea 😇

Having some trouble with the back of the bat as the tape marks don't want to clear off, but the face looks good and the ping is still great.
