B&S Laminate
« on: February 14, 2018, 07:27:01 PM »

So I have had hankering for a laminate for a while - more from curiosity than anything else.

A while back I had some money to burn in my PayPal and went for a GM in a close call with a laminate from Gary at B&S

Of course overtime I decided I would regret not taking the last of the batch from Gary so I reached out and took the plunge.

Incredibly easy to do business with and so helpful in answering all my stupid questions.

It arrived last week. I netted with it on Friday and it’s a belter.

Full size SH. 42mm edges & 60mm spine -  Really impressive chunky oval handle.

The laminate is clear on the photos so it’s grainy from the front and less impressive from the back.

Picks up like a quality bat should but the weight has blown my mind for the sheer size of the bat.... 2.8!!!!

The problem now is I want to go FKW for the 2018 season so in the market for accompanying accessories.

If I may ask what was the damage to your PayPal account !? That's exactly what I'm after but slight heavier, do you have a contact for Gary?

Cheers mate. Going to use it in the preseason nets then give it a refurb for the summer. Thanks again.

Sorry for this probably very basic question, but what is the reason for laminate bats, and the benefits?

Multiple reasons, all with debatable effectiveness.

1. You can glue extra willow to make a huge bat, this is all ego and no performance.

2. By creating a thin layer of willow, then glue then a very low density ugly cleft you can create a trampoline effective on performance. This is what the above bat is and what you get when you ask for a Keeley or Chase Laminate.

These days modern pressing challenges the performance upside.

They are illegal.

The most famous use of a laminate was Gooch with his 333 and 100 at Lords against India

More recently there have been rumours of pros using them, but I personally have got proof.
