Another refurb...
« on: April 09, 2018, 10:36:00 AM »

Although I have never seen one of these bats before so thought I would throw it up here. (Bats not mine)

Its a really nice looking stick but its been in the wars and then left in a shed.... There is a big delimitation on the side (its deep) and then a huge crack on the back of the toe (classic Yorker damage) and various other face cracks etc..

I've already glued it up, did it in 2/3 phases yesterday... first I did the delimitation from the side using tape to secure it, then I did the toe crack clamping it up and then I did the face....Next job will be a sand and inspection to see if anything else needs doing. The glueing was pretty straight forward as everything was split along easy lines and I could get a flat blade in to open it up and get plenty of glue in.

I've masked off the stickers as I think it will be nice to try and save them... I don't think I have ever seen another.

I might sand it down this evening... I'll put a few pics up of the first pass later.

Be interesting to see how it turns out. Not your standard sand and oil refurb job!

Did a first pass rough sand... mainly to see how all the glue had gone in, flatten the face off to get it looking a consistent colour and see where other cracks are...

Few more de-laminations to glue up on the face and a few cracks on the toe to get a bit more glue in but generally its not looking too bad at this stage:

Finished article: New grip and scuff sheet fitted, Gave it a light wax.

Its glued up good a solid and scuff sheet should hold it all together, I used a layer of wood glue on the toe.

It really is a loverly bat.

Warsop make lovely bats. Woefully underrepresented on here.
That looks a beauty.

I wonder where he got the bat from? Years ago I did a run of stickers for this ‘brand’?

I believe he got it from Barrington sports and only paid about 100quid as they hadn't sold any and wanted to get them moving.

It supposedly 2'11 (according to whats written on the handle) but with a grip on it picks up at least 2 oz ligher and the mallet response is awesome.

The face was basically completely delaminated about 1cm deep from the face and at least half way across the width... I don't think it will last years but it will be ping until that day it shatters.

kind of want to keep it.
