Well after taking some advice on here I eventually went for a B3 to replace my broken GN F18. I managed to sneak off up to Nottingham without the wife knowing and spent some time narrowing down my choices from the vast range of bats on offer. Their very helpful staff enabled this process to be easy to do and soon had it down to 4. I wanted a high middle bat with no concaving and as close to the F18 as possible. I wanted around 2.8 and liked the pick up and feel of the DB1, but was put off by the concaved back. They then brought out a custom bat from out the back which was very similar but with almost no concaving and a duckbill toe that had been made to order. It felt perfect with a lovely light pick up. So I asked for a copy as close as possible to it in a 2 stripe. I was going to have the lime green stickers, but they'd sold out so went for yellow. They said it would take 5 days to make and would then be posted.
I was very excited when I got home to find it had arrived. I took a few weeks to finally knock it in to the point I was happy to use it.
Weight: 2.85 now that I've added a second grip.
Edges: 36mm
Spine: 60mm
Minimal concaving and super light pick up
On it's first outing I managed just 9 with to nicely timed 4's. It felt very good out of the middle, although a few off the toe didn't seem to respond greatly. It clearly needed a bit more time to be fully ready. Second knock on Sunday and once I'd played myself in I was very impressed with its response. The balance is fantastic and the response from the middle is excellent. Several players commented about the lovely sound it made as the ball flew off the middle. I just missed out on a hundred after being caught for 97. Now looking forward to a few happy years using it.
