I`ve been asked by my captain to bat 6 this season for the "balance of the side and batting order" despite being the 2nd top run scorer the previous season batting at 4/5 as I am one of the quickest scorers in the side. Initially I was a tad disappointed and felt like It was because I was seen as a "lesser" bat than some of the others in the top 5 or I was being punished for their slower scoring rates but I felt like it was my duty as vice captain to do what was asked and after 4 games I've come to relish the job and believe it was the right call. In the 4 games I have twice had to bat in mini collapses at 60 odd for 4 and rebuild the innings and the other 2 times I have come in with runs on the board in the last 10 overs to help set up a declaration. It requires adaption which I have really enjoyed and you definitely need to be able to play spin reasonably well (which a lot of the other bats in the top 4/5 are not so good at). Plus being the keeper it does give you slightly more time to put your feet up after fielding!
