SF Stanford Maximum Impact
« on: August 03, 2018, 02:27:39 PM »

First post on here, just thought i'd show off a new piece of willow which I thought was a bit of a bargain!

SF Stanford Maximum Impact - I believe this model is only available in lower grades of willow and I was told that this particular bat was a grade 3.
The bat has 39mm edges and a 50mm spine. I can count 8 grains, with what I believe to be a stain (happy to be corrected) on the right-hander's outside edge. The grains are straight front and back, and seem to run straight through the toe. There is a decent amount of wood in the shoulders and the toe so the doesn't seem to be any particular 'weak points' on the bat.
This particular SF model has a slight duckbill toe with a mid-low middle and a spine running all the way up the bat to near the base of the handle. Speaking of the handle, it is thinner than I am used to, but I take it that this is a theme with asian made bats. However the handle has a very nice semi oval bottom hand running into a round top hand, a favoured set up of mine.
The bat features around 3-4mm of concaving, I know that full profiles give better coverage than concaved profiles, however I have never had a problem with concaved bats and this one is much the same.
Due to the concaving and the slight duckbill this bat picks up beautifully. When I was waving it round in my local shop I estimated the weight at 2lbs 7ozs, and upon weighing it at home it tipped the scales at a whopping 2lb 8ozs.
The ping and performance of this bat is right up there for a lower grade piece of wood. The pressing of the bat does not seem too soft and i reckon it will only require a couple of hours of knocking in.
Overall I am very impressed with this purchase and for just £150 I think i may have snagged a bargain. Anyway if you've read through all of this waffle, well done and here are some photos!

Looks like a great find, nice one. Middle is impressive, I do just worry a bit about duckbill toes. Less weight at the bottom aids pick up, but how does what's left stand up against quick yorkers? Best of luck with it.

Nice Bat..

What sort of grip is that?? And any idea on how good is Duckbill profile in terms of durability for a player who does not necessarily middle everything.

Just asking because I have seen a lot of bats with  exaggerate  Duckbill toe.

I have a duck bill on 5 or my 6 bats and never had a problem with them, face 70mph bowlers on fairly request occasions and I certaianly don’t middle everything all have fairly thick toes though and you that I mean 13/15mm

@CricketXI  I couldn't tell you the exact brand of grip but it's a dual texture octopus / control grip. I got it free when I bought the bat.
The duckbill toe isn't huge on this bat and although it doesn't feel amazing when the ball hits there, it hasn't given me any cause for concern, hope this helps.
