Having seen Pro direct cricket charge VAT to USA, I inquired Customer Service several times about it and they replied today saying that "Please be aware that we are now CHARGING VAT on orders shipped to the US, however because of this you will NOT now be charged additional customs Duty on arrival in the US."

I am not sure how this can be legal? Irrespective of VAT paid or not, USA customs will do what they need to do and charge customs on the imports as per their discretion/law. Also on UK side, it is not right to take VAT is shipment goes out of EU.  What are your thoughts on this?

Was just looking at a pair of shoes and trying to check final price on them including shipping and realized that it wasn't removing VAT as earlier. And their CS confirmed it is a change they made.

Pretty sure that if you do pay Vat, you can claim it back from HMRC. Pain in the posterior though, and like you say really shouldn't be necessary. I guess they would have exported loads to the US with their soccerball business so would like to think they know what they're doing.
