Help ! Struggling to bat now 😭😭😭😭
« on: November 07, 2018, 04:57:31 AM »

Hi peeps
So i moved to Aus from the UK last year.
I was scoring heeps of runs in UK but here in Australia i am struggling . Getting LBW too often against spin or fast bowlers.
I used to take middle and leg guard in uk which i changed to leg here in Au.
Now back to leg guard and problem still remains.
Is there anything i can try with my guard etc or anything else that can reduce the risk if getting lbw and still allows me to play all around.
One thing that has changed is that i tend to bat more aggressively in uk but here due to 2 days cricket i switched to slightly slower side too.

If I were you I'd have a good careful think about all the things you were doing when you were scoring loads of runs, then try to forget about everything you've changed since and go back to batting like that!

Are you playing at the correct level since your move? Maybe it's the standard that's better not you that's worse

Also why are you getting trapped LBW? Are you late on the shot or just missing the ball?

Perhaps the different pitches are a factor

Just think about what you did to score runs in the UK and apply it on the pitch.
And as already mentioned are the faster dryer  Aus pitches contributing to you getting out.

im presuming the pitches are a lot faster than UK so the ball is on to you much quicker than you are used to ???

What are the pitches like?  I'd expect the ball to be quite full if you're getting caught lbw given the bounce over there, so likely the pace of the pitch isn't a factor.  I've faced a couple of decent Australian quicks, and they like to let you know they can hit you with the short ball so you hang back, then chuck in a full one to trap you in front or bowl you.  In general the bowling tactics are different, just may take you a while to adjust.  Like others have said, go back to basics, play the ball on it's merits and hopefully get some of your own quicks down to the nets with you and give you a working over.

Thanks a lot for all the detailed replies.
few answers.
- I was playing Middlesex county league in UK and playing district cricket here in AU so standard is pretty much the same.
- Pitches are quicker no doubt.
- I have given it a thought and few changes that i made were, I changed my guard, in UK my back lift was slightly higher and straighter behind me but now it is little bit open and i think my hands are slightly away from my body when holding the bat during my backlift, which might be causing face of the bat to close during downswing and making me play squarer and allowing the straighter balls to hit my pads.
I am going to switch back to middle and leg guard as well as to slightly straight backlift to ensure my hands are not too far away from the body.
Let see how it goes.
thanks for the suggestions.
