Dawid Malan bat
« on: March 20, 2019, 05:14:29 PM »

Does anyone have the June issue lying around? I remember seeing this video (not available anymore) and thought he specified 2lb 7 oz as his weight. Yet GM “player” bats only start at 2lb 9

I remember watching the video and IIRC he said his bats are 2lb 9.5oz

So looks like 2lb 8.5 oz fully finished. I love the GM player series but I really think they need to be upfront about the fact that they do NOT match player weights

For the price you pay I do think you should get the weight they use, Espically as they have the machine to make every bat the same

Where do you infer the dead weight would match the players bats? GM make no such claim. They say they match the shape and dimensions. It would be asking a hell of a lot for them to not only find x number of top grade looking and performing clefts but also make sure all of the clefts are identical density. It just isn’t realistic from a natural product. I’d imagine a lot of players use a range of weights anyway so it’s all moot

They’ve left it vague. On the main page they mention shape and dimensions. But on each players page you get something like :

“Dawid Malan Player Edition DXM

Dawid is currently using Zelos labels with the following bat dimensions:

Swell depth = 66mm
Edge depth = 39mm

Weight between 2.9lb -2.11lb”

This seems to imply these are the players weights. Now, I never believed this to be true (it is ridiculous to accept that pros will allow 2 full ounces of variation in their bats), but many retailers and buyers believe this to be true. The wording is just a tad too cheeky imo.

Great bats, no doubt, but the marketing is a bit click-baity.

GM are selling the replica players shape but not the exact weight they are using. I believe if GM does that, there won't be any of those pretty looking low density clefts left for all their sponsored players in general.

It’s interesting how the weight can vary, but GM are unwilling to budge on anything else

Some retailers swear these bats are exact specs - including weights. They say that is what GM tells them. I don’t think this is true, but GM needs to tell their stockists not to spread false info.

I'm sure a lot of Pros do actually vary the weights they use purely down to pickup and feel of a bat? They must get sent bats that are made to their exact specs and still turn around and say its not quite right then pick a different bat out side of their parameters and it feels fine? If GM were kind enough to make bats for me my only concern would be the handle shape and size.

I may be wrong and happy to be corrected but didn't Dawid actually mention something about picking another pros bat up and preferring the feel in this video interview?

Does it even matter what weight pros use?

I always find it amazing how light are pro bats! Malan uses a 2-7? Surprisingly light!
