How much knocking in?
« on: June 28, 2019, 07:14:00 AM »

Hi,
I have just bought a Blank Bat B4 (separate thread, with photos will follow; I am very pleased and excited by it). Having taken off the scuff sheet to knock it in, the mallet doesn't seem to make any impact of the face (I have rounded the edges).
I recall reading on another thread that Keeley tends to press bats so they are ready to play.

How have others treated their BB/Keeley made bats - the usual several hours knocking in, or minimal knocking in and ready to play?

Thanks,

David

Use it int he nets with old balls, if there no seam marks crack on and enjoy if there si more knocking required

David No marks off the mallet is a good sign the real test to finding out if your bat is ready are ball seam marks
following the mallet test before match use get a newish ball on a stick and  starting gently hit the ball seam onto the edges and bat face it won't replicate the impact  of ball seam marks on the blade  from fast bowling but is a good indicator.
As for ready to play all that means is the bat should not break under normal use.

I spent quite a while knocking mine in. Rounded the edges first then knocked them in worked on the toe then a bit on the face, it didn't really make indentations on the face but after 45mins the grains started to open up.

Scuff sheet on netted with it and everything out of the middle (basically the full bat) just flies.

Enjoy!
