Converting long handle to short
« on: June 23, 2019, 05:46:57 PM »

I have a lovely light weight bat which is long handle and for some reason (probably most in my head), I cannot get on with it.

Is there an easy way to chop a couple of inches or am I asking for trouble.

Also if I go for professional rehandling, any ideas of costs.

Based in Leeds.

Thanks.

Extremely easy to saw off whatever you want. Even the saw in a Swiss Army knife is enough.

I’m in the same situation - I’ve got a lovely bat (extra short blade and long handle) and I can’t help but feel that a couple of inches off the top of the handle would make it nicer. I did wonder about taking a saw to the handle and then rebinding it. I’d consider thinning the handle a little too, just to give that ‘lip’ that is on the handle presently.

How much 'longer' is it than a short handle? Is it just in the handle or the blade as well?

Quite easy to do  roll down grip  and mark with pen where to saw apply prior to cutting masking tape around binding just below cut to stop it unraveling. Use thin blade to cut roll grip back up and tap  grip down with palm of hand.

Overall length is the same as standard but handle is two inches longer.

Since the pickup will be a bit heavier afterwards, you may want to add some weight (lead tape) to the top of the handle, to shift the balance point back up the blade towards the handle a bit.

Can’t say I’m speaking from experience but taking off that two inches and then doing something to replace the lost weight shouldn’t be a massive drama
