Thank you and my first B3
« on: August 19, 2019, 06:46:23 PM »

This is my first post, so I'd like to start with a thank you to everyone here who posted good things about B3.  After a 6 year break from the game I returned this year with my 2009/10 M&H solution bat.  This bat used to be an absolute gun but I dont know whether it dried out in storage or what but it seems the entire face has delaminated (sounds hollow and presses in) and is as dead as a door nail now.  So it was time for a new bat, being 6'4 I loved the low middle of the solutions i had and the GM hero before that but I shuddered at the £500+ price tag for MH latest low middle job.  So I started searching the internet, came across this forum and read all about B3.  So a play with their configurator and there it was, a CDX 17.2, a modern day solution.  A few emails and two weeks later I have just unwrapped this thing of beauty!  Its a 2 stripe ordered at 2.11, knocked in, fibre sheet, toe guard and 2 grips...

Cant wait to get leather on this willow, however I will have to as 4 days after ordering I tore my hammy and out for the season!

Just had the bat mallet and a ball on her, it sounds really nice with what seems like a nice strong ping, with a fairly long playable area.  The B3 configurator really is a genius addition to the bat buying process.

Whats the latest thinking on oiling?  The face has been prepared by B3 but half a teaspoon over the back or leave as is?

I'll be honest that in all the bats Ive ever owned as an adult (5x Slazenger V100, a GM hero 909 and 2x grade one MH solutions) have been shop bought and I've never really paid much attention to knocking in.  They've had a coat of oil, a face put on and then out to the net or even sometimes a match and all have seemed to perform OK, but i guess they have all improved with time.  After reading on here about knocking in and this being my first real large profile bat (last bat i bought was 2009) Ive just spent 2 odd hours knocking in.  Half hour on each edge, half hour on the first 2 inches of the toe and then half hour on the rest of the blade.  It seemed quite soft so went easy and gradually increased force with the mallet and afterwards there was a visible lip below the sticker where the blade had compressed slightly.  I was a little worried but then i bounced a ball on it and wow!!! the note has completely changed from straight out the box and the ball rebounds what seems like about half as much again!  Completely amazed at how this pings and sounds now!

Might have to find someone to give me some throw downs even if I am on one leg.

Thanks, I hope so too!  Although I'm not sure how good the operator is any more!

Lovely bat and great shape. I've just shaped one similar to this, right up my street that low middle. Enjoy!

Nice stick. B3 are the shiznit.
A light oil/thin coat of bat wax to the back is fine. I'd say a teaspoon of linseed is too much unless it's bone dry. Don't overdo it.
Avoid oiling the splice in any case. Hope it goes well for you.

Great profile! I also have a 17.2 although weighing in at 2lb 9.5oz. I am pleasantly surprised at how well it picks up considering its low middle. Great ping low down ( obviously ), but again I was pleasantly surprised how well it goes higher up!

I ordered it lighter than I normally would as I thought the pick up would suffer, but it didn't. A lad in the club likes it and is considering buying it so I may look at ordering one around 2lb 11 - 12 oz.

Kind Regards,

Stumpy.

Yeah, the pickup is great for me and not too heavy, I could probably handle a couple more ounces but i went with 2.11 as that's what my MH was and almost identical profile.  I love the feel of a slightly bottom heavy bat, if you just let them swing they take your hands through the ball nicely, a more balanced bat I feel you have to manoeuvre them more.  Each to their own i guess!
