Red marks on bat
« on: August 28, 2019, 02:37:27 PM »

Hi all, this might have been mentioned on another Thread but how come sometimes you might look at a pros bats and you can consistently see the red marks/cherries on the bat. The pics below were all from the same tour to the West Indies and you can see the ball marks look like smudges and splatters. In the West Indies they use the dukes ball so I was wondering if it’s the balls or scuff sheet or conditions etc.  https://www.cricket.com.au/~/media/News/2015/06/4Voges_bat.ashx?la=en&hash=CDB6938B5CB159972E324358DD143956D1976051

It's because, unlike us, they can actually get bat on ball.

I don't know, this was my bat after a decent knock...

In these pics there is scuff sheet on bats. I hardly had any cherries in past. But I used GM with scuff sheet in 2 nets last 2 weeks and it's full of cherries

GM ones

I would concur with this.  Of all the brands I have used, these seem to take on the most ball marks

On the opposite end I have a roll of sheet from an Indian overseas. In 1020 runs this season I have 4 cherries on the bat. No idea what makes it keep the marks off so well.

Pretty sure there’s a company on eBay that sells similar stuff, 50m for about 20 quid I think

something to do with the West Indies.. i've noticed this too.

look at one of Steve Smith's old bats (6:54) in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-OaSQeLx3qQ&t=566s

he even says "as you can tell by looking at the cherries"
