Butterfly Trott experiment at RS
« on: May 25, 2020, 05:55:00 PM »

Hi guys,
So as the title suggests, after successfully experimenting with the GM Kaha shape in January, this time i decided to take the challenge a step forward and asked the gentlemen at Robinsons to replicate the trott shape. what makes it even more interesting is me keeping with a low budget again so this will be made with a butterfly grade cleft. Using the images and dimensions taken from the B3 bat of Mr. Vicbats from the forum, i asked Mr. Jolly to find me a light enough cleft to keep the weight manageable. And this is what we selected in the end. As the picture suggests, The weight of the cleft at this stage is 1725g. After playing with units i am guessing in B3 terms this is a 425 density cleft. Eager to see what turns up. I am very excited!

So the bat is done. And here it is in all its glory. It may not be exactly 100% accurate since they only had a few pictures to gauge the profile but From the pics it looks like they have managed to replicate the trott shape pretty well. Dont know the exact specs yet but the weight is very reasonable at 1206g or 2lb 10.6oz...

Will post a detailed review once i get my hands on it. Due to the pandemic and added overheads they have had to slightly raise their prices. Im not at the luxury to disclose but you can always get in touch with Mr. Jolly and have a chat. He truly lives up to his name. Had another bat made in their top of the range grade but that deserves a topic of its own.

Looks a tidy bat, but from those snaps it doesn't look remotely like a Trott shape?

I think its the splice where they missed the mark a little bit. As i said we only had a few pictures to gauge the profile. Neither they nor I have ever seen a trott profile in the flesh.

Looks very nice. I'm surprised they are open at the moment. I have been in touch with other Indian manufacturers this week and they are completely shut down.

I'm being hounded at the moment from every supplier going for new business, think most are gradually reopening now. There's very little government assistance compared to the UK so they have almost no choice but to reopen unfortunately.

That is unfortunately true. After having been shut for nearly 2 months and still being honorable enough to pay all their employees wages while businesses around the country laid off everyone they simply couldn't stay shut anymore so they restarted with strict measures in place.

As for the cost, they have requested me not to disclose as they offer me very special prices due to our relationship. But feel free to check with them and you can always use my reference. Its still under gbp 100 and they have some lovely butterfly clefts.

Jeez, under £100 for that, talk about unnecessary temptation!
