Cricket in the North East
« on: April 28, 2022, 09:28:17 PM »

Hello all,

I’ve just accepted a job offer up in South Shields so I’m going to be on the look out for a club up there!

I’m interested to know what the standard is like up that way if any of you play it. As I’m looking to move closer to Sunderland than Newcastle, I understand I’ll likely be playing in the Durham & NE league.

Cheers lads!

The standard in the north east is right up there, NEPL and pyramid system are in place so teams/clubs naturally find their level. If you don’t mind me asking what standard are you use to and maybe I can point you in the right direction and suggest which clubs maybe for you

I think realistically I’ll be playing Div 4/5/6.
Have had a look at Silksworth + Wearmouth online who both have 2’s in Div 6 - but obviously won’t know what they’re like until I actually get up there!

Biased as I used to play there years ago but Ryhope is a great place to play, top deck, rapid outfield, good place for a drink after.

Personally I would avoid Wearmouth or Silksworth, both not exactly great great grounds and less of a ‘proper club’ feel.

Boldon CC next to the dog track is also a nice place to play.

You’ve interested me with the talk of small boundaries you see 👀😂

Still got to do a security check and sort out contract details so could be a few weeks until I’m up there yet. If I’m able to work from home regularly I’ll hopefully move closer to Newcastle - if I do I’ll be in touch!
