Ebay and fakes.
« on: March 25, 2021, 01:21:54 AM »

Hi all.
Found this obvious fake Bradbury on ebay.
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/RARE-Bradbury-Players-Adult-SH-Cricket-Bat-RRP-400-2lbs-7oz-/383909954981?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49292
The bat is not a Bradbury and the stickers are a poor attempt to replicate a 15 year old design.  A clear example of someone taking advantage of bargain hunters.
I put it to forum members, is it ok for people to sell fake products on Ebay etc or should their be greater consequence for this behaviour. And if so what?

This user has come up numerous times as a dodgy seller in the Ebay threads. Unfortunately there's little that Ebay do about him, but it's clearly not ok. I'd like for them to be banned from Ebay at the very least and potentially pursued through other legal means.

It’s the £800 Duncan Fearnley which I particularly enjoy! The thing is even if you report them to eBay, nothing happens. I’ve done it a few times with bats that are clearly not what they say they are, but it falls on deaf ears.

Stuff like this is why there is a forum ban on fake stickers.

Totally agree with Tom.

can't be easy for eBay as i doubt anyone who works for them knows much about the cricket industry - don't get me wrong i am in no way condoning the practise by some sellers - but those type of people are everywhere - starts with 'i got this off a pro'/made for XXX pro etc -

but they should take more notice of people reporting items - esp. for fakes

the point is - you have to be carefull everywhere you shop/buy - no matter what

The issue with eBay is there are literally hundreds of thousands of items listed and no doubt thousands being reported for one reason or another each day, each of these requires human interaction and like you say @More Glue Than Wood, with no experience of the cricket market it's very much a "his word against mine" scenario so a lot of it will just fall through the cracks unless the seller is consistently getting reported.

Naturally I completely detest any of these fake sticker companies, the amount of bats I get sent in for refurbs with 'eBay' stickers on is simply ridiculous - I've even had sticker companies contacting me offering me counterfeits ffs.

I wouldn’t trust anyone who would let their fence and wall get in to such a sorry state of repair.

Probably 90% of the bats he’s selling deserve a place in the eBay tat thread, and 100% of them are comically overpriced.

@Hoover It might be worth joining, if you haven't already, the Ebay VERO program. As the rights owner of Bradbury you can then use this to close any listings infringing on your trademark:

I suspect that unless the complaint comes from the holder of the IP rights and there is a genuine risk of enforcement action, Ebay will be happy to keep taking sales commission for these transactions

Thanks Tom,
We are already registered with Vero, and it did the job. Listing removed. Waiting for the next cowboy. Problem is with the buyers looking for a bargain, in this case a massive rip off.
